The Center for Intuitive Arts - Your Life is Waiting.......
Monthly Intuition

Dear Friends:

This month I want to discuss the art of shape shifting.

In ancient times, there were various groups that believed that certain individuals had the ability to transform themselves into animals or plant life. Shape shifters have long been celebrated in art and literature as far back as Greek Mythology. In some cases the shift was forced upon another, such as the goddess Circe changing intruders into swine. In other cases, a shift came about as a means of survival or escape. Some of us will recall the sculpture of Daphne changing into a tree to avoid the pursuit of Apollo. Modern literature enthusiasts are too familiar with the Animagi from the Harry Potter series or the characters on the popular cable show True Blood. Native American tales are filled with accounts of this activity and there are many Indians alive today who claim to have had real-life encounters with individuals who are known the shape shift.

Could shape shifting be real, or simply a metaphor for transformation?
If I were a dragonfly, my eyes would have 30 thousand lenses. If I were a dog, colors like red and green would not be very interesting for me. If I was a fish I could see all that is above and below me and process that information simultaneously.

Perhaps being a modern day shape shifter is more about changing your perspective than appearance. Over the years, I have learned a number of tools that have allowed me to shift the shape of the landscape I’m in. When I look at a situation from a different perspective its as if I am seeing it through my dragon fly eyes. As a result, the landscape appears to shift and as it moves, my attitude follows.

To activate this process I practice the following four strategies:

Mindfulness
Time management
Reframing
Manifestation

Mindfulness is about developing an awareness of all that is without and within, in the present moment, without judgment, fear, or getting stuck.

For example, I can enjoy the sound of the wind blowing in the trees outside the window where I am performing a boring task like washing the dishes.

I can enjoy the smell of the perfume that a rude waitress is wearing. I can simply note her rudeness and perhaps ponder what her day has been like. I can be aware that certain thoughts like, “What is her problem?” or, “Why does everyone treat me this way?” will likely cross my mind and I can choose not to dwell there.

I can take it as a sign that every time a large, old possum shows up in my driveway that change is on the horizon. (It’s true) I can wonder too, if the very small possum I saw in my daughter’s driveway last night means anything at all.

We spend so much time regretting the past or worrying about the future that we are simply unable to “Be Here Now.” As a result, we miss the signs and subtle signals of many things that are happening all around us. Things that if noted and acted upon will likely change the world…………………..
